The ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared Friday as the Kenyan/African Attire day. The ministry is urging all civil servants and members of the public to ditch their ‘Western business attire’, every Friday, for local brands that make them feel uniquely Kenyan.

This initiative is more than just about what we you wear; its goal is two-fold: to support and elevate local brands all the while celebrating the Kenyan heritage. Political and Diplomacy Secretary, Tom Amollo said the move was prompted by the need to increase awareness of Kenya’s cultural richness and hopes African attire may inspire Kenyans to use attire as a tool of self-expression, social activism and public diplomacy.

We at COUTURE Africa totally welcome the move and can’t wait to see what y’all will be rocking this and every Friday.

Instead of the stiff pinstriped suits how about a little extra splash of colour? For the men, may be a loose shirt and geometrical patterns in red and maroon? For the ladies, bright flowing Ankara print dressed to nudge out those conservative skirts and blouses.
