Whether you are gearing up for your holiday trip during the Mashujaa Day weekend, or are a seasoned business and leisure traveller, these travel tips shall help your look fab and fierce on the road, and throughout your trip.

Beauty and travel are not mutually exclusive. With my latest travel escapade being a flight of more than 18 hours, I knew I had to prepare myself. Armed with a just a few beauty survival tips, I had the confidence that even if I run smack into the sexy Idris Elba, I wouldn’t have the urge to hide. This month, with Mashujaa Day around the corner, I will share with you my beauty survival tips to help you stay ‘Gorgeous on the Go’.

Minimalist Travel Sista

Don’t know what or how to pack? Well, this is the ‘curse’ of being of the fairer sex; wanting to carry everything along with us save for the bathroom sink. Fret not, for I am here to gently break it down for you. Packing doesn’t have to be the nightmare it is deemed to be! You could be going for an impromptu escape or business trip, or an intricately planned vacation, either way there are some basics that should be in every woman’s luggage to create great looks without adding extra weight.

  1. The LBD!

Stylists go on and on about the little black dress and today I must join that bandwagon. It is a staple in any woman’s wardrobe and the same goes for when she is travelling. That little black dress can be pulled out on any special occasion while you are on the go.

  1. Heels

Wherever you are going, whatever the climate, always pack a pair of heels in case you need to dress up.

  1. 3. Accessorize

Nothing jazzes up a boring travel outfit like accessories! Whether it’s a chic scarf, chandelier earrings or a statement necklace, always pack key accessories that can dress up even the most basic of your clothing.

  1. Carry your CTM.

Packing also includes your make-up. I know a couple of ladies who find it difficult to part with their arsenal of beauty products perfectly tailored for their daily beauty routine. You may not intend to wear any make-up, especially if going down to the Coast, but be sure to stick to your skin care basics; Cleanser, Toner and Moisturizer. Remember to throw in your sunscreen.

  1. Keep it compact. Pack compact travel size toiletries when traveling. They easily fit in your luggage without taking up too much space or weight. You are also guaranteed to be below the 100ml security watch!
  2. Roll it.

This is very important. Roll your clothes, don’t fold them. This takes up less space andclothes are surprisingly less wrinkled upon arrival.

You are now packed and ready to go! Whatever you are up for some fun in the sun or are roughing it up in the wild, you still need to look amazing.

Tips for the Beach Babe

Hours of sunshine, kilometres of stunning white sandy beaches, endless miles of crystal clear blue ocean waters that meet the horizon and amazing island breezes, may be your ideal vacation. Be careful though, as where there is lots of sun and water comes the risk of skin and hair damage. However, we have some beauty tips to ensure you comeback looking more amazing than you left.

  1. SPF Everything!

When it comes to skin care while you’re lounging by the pool or splashing in the ocean, it is no secret that sunscreen is important, so make sure to soak-in that sun screen. Apply a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher, 30 to 60 minutes before exposure to the sun for maximum effectiveness. Get a specialized SPF for your face as it has more active anti-wrinkle ingredients that help prevent premature ageing.

  1. BB is your BFF.

Keep make-up to a minimum when on holiday in humid climates. Along with drinking plenty of water, the solution is to moisturize. Without a doubt BB creams are the ultimate under the sun beauty product. What’s not to love, a wonder cream that moisturises, provides sun protection and covers-up all in a tiny tube.

  1. Eye care

Look after your eyes with the right pair of gorgeous UV protecting sunglasses. Apart from protecting your eyes, sunglasses are an instant confidence booster and add allure to anything you are wearing. So go ahead and invest in a pair of quality sunglasses that say something about your personality.

Tips for Trail-Blazer Babe

Backpacking, hiking, camping, bungee jumping or pretty much any active outdoor holiday plan can be one of the most exhilarating, freeing experiences a woman can have. That does not mean that you have to let yourself go and end up looking like a troll when you are out in the wild. Looking feminine and feeling pretty while camping or doing outdoor activities can be easily achieved. So here are some tips for the trail-blazer babe to survive in the wild and still stay glam!

  1. Minimalistic make-up.

Keep makeup to a minimum. Water-proof mascara, tinted lip balm and a pair of stud earrings will make you look ten times feminine and a hundred times chic, all the while being outdoor-appropriate.

  1. Get a hiking hair-do.

You are going to be active most of the time, so it is important to keep your hair out of the way. A side ponytail is a little girly and playful adding a cute sexy look.

  1. Cup it.

This technically doesn’t qualify as a beauty product, but related to personal hygiene. It’s something absolutely awesome that will make your life a lot easier. What I’m I going on about? A menstrual cup. A small silicone cup that is worn internally collecting your flow, that you empty and clean after eight hours. It’s totally discrete, you can swim in it, and all backpacker girlfriends who use these, love them.

  1. No Perfume.

Spray your skin wit with an insect repellent over your sunscreen and avoid wearing perfumes, and body spray to keep pesky critters at bay. Unfortunately, if you end up getting bitten, soothe the bites and alleviate the itch with a topical solution that contains calamine.
