Anti-ageing is all the rave right now as more women are becoming more aware of the importance of taking care of our skin to prevent premature ageing. Good news is, there are anti-ageing solutions for everyone, from the extravagant and brand aware to the frugal and the naturalists. For the latter two, here are some homemade, natural, anti-ageing products you can use to keep your skin looking young and plump for longer without spending a fortune.

Eggs

Protein in eggs promote tissue repair and growth, Riboflavin [Vitamin B2] eliminates toxic and cell damaging free radicals that create wrinkles, potassium preserves moisture in skin in skin cells and magnesium slows down the ageing process, all creating stronger, wrinkle-free skin!!!

Application: you can use eggs as part of a more intricate homemade mask, or simply beat the egg, apply it on your face and let it dry, then rinse off with warm water.

Raw honey

It is said that legends like Cleopatra and Poppea used raw honey on their face and their hair as beauty treatment. Not surprisingly so, honey is some sort of super-anti-ageing product. It contains glucose oxidase which acts as a mild antiseptic when combined with water. It also has antioxidants and flavonoids that have antibacterial properties and is a great moisturizer that rebuilds the moisture level in the skin without making it oily.  Its natural sugars also contain enzymes that boost skin cell function which is great for anti-ageing and anti-acne.

Application: you can use raw honey as it is. Wash your face with pure water [do not use a cleanser, as the honey does have cleansing agents], apply honey onto you as a face mask and leave on for 20 minutes then rinse well with warm water.

Avocado

Moisture is the enemy of ageing skin, and avocado mask is the best way to add moisture to especially dry skin as it has unsaturated fats which add moisture to the skin, and vitamin E to promote healing of damaged skin cells.

Application: simply mash the avocado and apply to the driest parts of your face for combination skin, or the whole of your face for dry skin and leave on for around 15 minutes and wash off. You can also use avocado as part of a combination mask.

Lemon

The juice of fresh lemons is great for reducing age spots. Lemon contains vitamin C which is a strong antioxidant. It lightens sun and age spots, and evens out your skin tone. Lemon on the skin also acts as a natural anti-stigent that brightens your complexion and tightens your pores.

Application: A common addition to various face masks, lemon is also great on its own. Simply apply the juice of half a lemon on your skin and leave on for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water. Daily use is recommended to achieve the highest results.

Cucumber

Everyone is aware of the anti-inflammatory benefits of the cucumber, especially to the eyes. This is because they have natural ascorbic acids and caffeic acids that that prevent water retention in the skin, hence reducing skin inflammation, visible eye bags and even tighten collagen reducing visible cellulite on the rest of your body. It can also be used as a natural toner, to reduce oiliness and hydrate your skin, due to its high water content [95%].

Application: There are lots of ways to use cucumber on your face. To reduce visible eye bags, place two round slices of cucumber on your eyes for about 30 minutes. For its toning effects, apply cucumber juice on your face with a cotton pad and leave it to dry before you rinse off, or apply cucumber puree on your face for up to 30 minutes. To hydrate your face, mix cucumber and yoghurt to create a hydrating face mask.
